If you are an Alaska resident, and would like to become a Volunteer Examiner (VE) with the Anchorage ARC VEC, Inc., here is how to go about becoming certified.
Requirements:
If you meet the following list of requirements, then you can make application to become a VE:
(1) You must be at least 18 years of age.
(2) You must be a US citizen, and a permanent resident of the State of Alaska.
(3) You must hold a valid FCC Amateur Radio license of General, Advanced, or Extra class.
(4) Your license must have never been revoked or suspended for cause.
(5) You must agree to abide by the policies and procedures set forth by the Anchorage ARC VEC, Inc.
Who can give what test:
EXTRA class license holders can give tests for everything (Elements 2, 3, and 4)
ADVANCED class licensees can give tests for Technician and General class only (Elements 2, 3)
GENERAL class licensees can give tests for Technician class only, plus code (Element 2)
TECHNICIAN and NOVICE class licensees are not permitted to be Volunteer Examiners
Note: As of April 15, 2000, no new tests will be administered for ADVANCED or NOVICE class licenses. Persons holding such licenses may renew them as long as they wish.
Applying to become a VE:
You apply to become a volunteer examiner by entering some personal data, such as your name, Amateur call sign, mailing address, and contact information onto a standard form. You also certify that certain statements on the form are correct, and that you agree with the terms and conditions detailed on the application form. You will also need to send us a copy of your current Amateur Radio license.
Once you have submitted your application, it will be reviewed by the VEC board. As soon as your application is approved, which usually takes a couple of weeks to a month (or so) then you will receive a VE certification card, and your name and contact information will be entered into a database of all Anchorage ARC Volunteer Examiners statewide.
You will also receive a VE instruction guide that will assist you in conducting exams. (Note: The new instruction guides, which take into account the changes caused by the recent restructuring of the Amateur license system, are being prepared. Until they are ready, an interim instruction guide will be supplied, or you may access the examiners instruction guide on this web site. Click here to view the examiners guide.)
